The English course is mandatory part of this seminar.
First meeting
Assignment to be done before the first meeting: Bring a copy of a published paper with you on Friday, 30 January.
All students should bring a copy of a typical published paper from the field of their study. As far as it is possible to know, this paper should have been written by a NATIVE SPEAKER/s (from USA, UK, Australia, Canada etc.) If two or more of you are working in the same or a similar field of study, then you may bring the same paper.
Second meeting
Bring your laptop computer, if you have one. Bring an electronic copy of your draft paper or a paper copy. During the meeting, you improve your papers according to instructions.
Presentations practice: lecture, 17th April 2009, 10.00 - 12.00.
Aims/Objectives: to give everyone an opportunity to practise talking about your paper.
1. Before the lecture, please prepare a 5-7 minute summary of your paper.
2. During that lecture, I'm going to ask every one of you to give that short spoken summary of your paper to a fellow student, i.e. pair-work.
3. Thus, you may need to make some notes, and you may want to bring slides with you, either on paper, or in your laptop.
** These summaries will NOT be given to the whole group!
4. Here's a link to a short video (c 4.5 mins long) on VoIP that I recommend you should watch for technique (format, structure etc) if not for content.
It's a little old, perhaps, but it may help some of you with your presentation skills.

Title: " VoIP Ready for Prime Time "
5. We'll have time for a couple of short presentations to the whole group if any of you would like to do that. The presentation should be about 8 minutes in length, and you may present your paper or part of of your paper.
Alternatively, you may choose a different topic altogether.
But please let me know BEFORE the lecture. I'll give you some tips in advance if you wish.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you on 17th April.
