IP Switching

• The first cut-through technology was the IP Switching concept conceived by Ipsilon Inc (now a part of Nokia)

• IP Switching was based on the General Switch Management Protocol (GSMP)

• ATM routers detect and IP data flow and drop it onto a new ATM SVC

• This combines the flexibility of routing with the efficiency of switching
