T-110.6120 Special course on Data Communications Software 

Energy-efficient Mobile Computing, 5 ECTS

Spring 2014, study period V, 14.04.2014-27.05.2014

The first meeting will be held at 14.15 on 14.4.2014 in TUAS room 1171-72. 

The course is lectured at lecture hall T5/T3 of the T building, Konemiehentie 2, Espoo. Please check the final schedule of lectures from Page lectures. Attendance is mandatory!

 

Learning outcome:   You will be able to measure power consumption of smartphones and identify the impacting factors of power consumption. You will be able to describe the power management strategies implemented in mobile OSs, and the power saving mechanisms defined in wireless network standards.  You will gain an overview of current research issues in the area. You will be able to implement the power saving mechanisms presented in the literature, and be able to recognize challenges in designing and implementing energy-efficient mobile applications.

 

Content:  Overview of smartphone power consumption, techniques for smartphone power measurement and analysis, CPU power management in mobile OSs, power saving mechanisms of cellular and Wi-Fi network interfaces, energy-efficient mobile sensing, and toolkits for developing energy-efficient mobile applications.
