Signing up for the course
Recent changes to the page
- 19.9: Clarified the instructions for stating references and added a bullet on informing whether your e-mail address can be published. If you have already registered, do not reregister.
Students sign up by sending an application to iwork@tml.hut.fi.
Before signing up, the student should choose one of the IETF Working Groups that is inspected on this seminar. Note, that the work group
The deadline for signing up for the course is Friday 20.9 at 12.00 noon.spirits
cannot be chosen, although it is listed on the slides at the introductory lecture.Note, that due to the limited amount of tutors on this seminar, we can only accept a maximum of 25 students to this seminar. It is therefore in your own interest to motivate why you should be taken, since poorly motivated applications will be among the first ones to be rejected.
You apply for the course by sending an e-mail with the subject
Registration - your student number
to iwork@tml.hut.fi.In the e-mail should be mentioned:
- Name
- Student number
- Contact information (e-mail address and phone number)
- Your major and minor
- New: (added 19.9): Do you allow that your e-mail address is published on the course web page for about one week when the list of opponents is announced (this facilitates informing each student his opponent's contact information)
- Your Primary IETF Working Group, that is the IETF Working group you primarily would like to write your article about. Check which groups you can choose from here.
Include:
- The acronym name of the working group
- A short description of the problem setting that Working Group is interested in (about 1/2 a page)
- A couple of references, where you would start looking for information if you are lucky enough to get this Working Group. Since the specific topic you will write about still is open, these references can be general, althoug e.g. "www.ietf.org" will not do as a good reference.
- One or two additional IETF Working Groups, in case too many students choose your Primay IETF Working Group, in which case you necessarily will not be able to write about that group. You do not need to describe these groups as thoroughly as your primary Working Group.
- Your previous knowledge in this area (prerequisite courses or other knowledge)
- A motivation (see below)
The motivation explains for the course personnel, why you should be able to take the course this term. How far are you in your studies (how many credits do you have) and why do you need to take this course. You could mention when you plan to start writing your thesis. If you are graduating soon and really need to take this course now, state so in your application.
Those that state that they will graduate soon, should present a list of completed courses from the study registry (a so called "OREK-ote") and a study plan that show how you will complete the missing studies for the course personnel. You can hand over the papers at the beginning of the first part of the English course (check the schedule).
If you don't write any motivation for taking this course, your application will be along the first to be rejected. Unfortunately, there won't be enough tutors for everyone. The accepted students along with the IETF Working Group they get to research and their personal tutors will be announced on Monday, 23.9, before the first part of the English course in the course, in the newsgroup opinnot.tik.internetworking.
The application e-mails will be acknowledged as the course personnel receive them.
Follow the schedule.
