Signing up is done by registering in Oodi. In addition, the first lecture is mandatory. You will not be accepted to the course if you have not signed up and are not present on the first lecture.
The aim of the course is to gather practical experience from different situations and problems related to data communications software. The course deals with analyzing network protocols, configuring network components, and reading networking standards.
The prerequisites for this course are T-110.2100 and T-110.4100. Other parallel courses offered by Electrical engineering department are ok. You will also need some some Unix/Linux experience, since you will need to use many command-line tools.
The extent of the course is 4 credits. It consists of individual laboratory assignments and students must pass 4 of them in order to pass the course. Each assignment is a laboratory work and you will need to submit a written report of each of them. The reports are checked and scored by course personnel. It is recommended that students familiarize themselves with the subject of an assignment beforehand, so that the assignment can be finished within reasonable time. Be aware, that the assignments vary in difficulty and amount of work.
The course is graded 0-5. You will need to get at least 75% of points total from the assignments to pass the course. This means, that should you have difficulty getting some of the assignments done, you can still pass the course by doing well in other assignments.
Important: The course is done individually. You must write the reports using your own words, so that course staff can be sure you really know the answer to the question! Plagiarism (i.e. copying from another source) is not tolerated, and will result in a failed assignment - or worse, depending on the case .
When you really need to refer to someone else's text, do it by quoting
and/or referencing it properly. It is rarely necessary to quote more
than one sentence.
