Start your session by rebooting the workstation and a menu will appear. First time through select an option "environment reset". It will return the workstation to a pristine state and reboot. Next, select "Debian linux" and you can begin to work with your assignment.
Login as root, no password is requested.
There are some preferences you may want to adjust to your liking, run "update-alternatives --all".
You may like to work in graphical environment, it starts with command "startx".
In your answers you are usually required to include typed commands and their outputs, you may find commands script(1) and screen(1) useful.
There are few commonly used text editors installed, notably emacs(1) and vi(1).
Remember to save your work outside of the laboratory class, it will be deleted from the workstations before the next session. Use scp(1).
