Mobile architecture
Mobile Services Switching Center (MSC)
In an automatic system, the Mobile Services Switching Center
establishes the interface between the radio system and the Public
Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
The MSC performs all necessary signaling functions in order to
establish calls from and to mobile stations.
In order to obtain radio coverage of a given geographical area,
several base stations are normally required; i.e. each MSC
would thus have to interface a number of base stations.
Several MSCs may be required in order to cover a country.
