• CMIS implements the basic services of network management

• The network management application is the user of CMIS

• Unlike SNMP, CMIS/CMIP defines the services offered

• The three service classes defined are:

  • Management association
    • M-INITIALIZE
    • M-TERMINATE
    • M-ABORT
  • Management notification
    • M-EVENT-REPORT (compare with SNMP Trap)
  • Management operation
    • M-GET
    • M-SET
    • M-ACTION
    • M-CREATE
    • M-DELETE
