The Home Location Register (HLR)

• This functional entity is a data base in charge of the management

of mobile subscribers.

• A PLMN may contain one or several HLRs: it depends on the

number of mobile subscribers, on the capacity of the equipment

and on the organization of the network.

• The HLR contains two kinds of information:

• The subscription information
• Some location information enabling the charging and routing of calls towards the MSC where the MS is located (e.g. the MS roaming number, the MSC address)
