*** Special Issue on Program Debugging and the Novice Programmer ***
*** To be Published in June 2008 ***

Guest Editor: Raymond Lister

Debugging is an intrinsic component of programming, but effective
debugging is both difficult for novice programmers to learn and
challenging to teach. Articles are solicited that describe original work
on any aspect of novice programmer debugging. Suitable topics include
but are not limited to:

       * Techniques for teaching debugging
       * Tools for supporting novice debugging
       * Research on debugging behavior in novice programmers

A general literature review on novice programmer debugging has been
commissioned for this special issue. All other submissions should
never-the-less contain the traditional summary of any literature that is
of immediate relevance to the original work presented in the submission.

It is anticipated that most submissions will focus on novice programmers
in a university context, but papers concerning high school students or
any other type of novice programmer are appropriate and welcome.

Intending authors should note that a one page summary of the full
submission is required 1 month prior to the full submission. The
summary should contain a working title, which may change in the full
submission. However, the summary should not contain the names and
addresses of the authors; that information should appear in the body of
the email to which the summary is attached.

Schedule
One Page Summary Submission: July 31, 2007
Full Paper Submission: August 31, 2007
Notification: October, 2007
Final paper: November 30, 2007
Publication: June, 2008

Abstracts and full submissions should be submitted by email to the
guest editor at raymond_at_it.uts.edu.au

Full papers are ideally around 5,000 words, and not longer than 6,000
words. Both abstracts and full papers should be in RTF or PDF, formatted
according to the instructions at

               http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authors/ncseauth.asp

A Word template is available at that site.
